Beginning Gardener 101

September 12, 2012   If you have not gardened before, but don't want to wait until spring to try, now is a good time to plant leaf lettuce, Galilee spinach and radishes.  They will have time to mature before it frosts, and if you plan ahead to be able to cover them, they will produce a good crop this fall.  Let the fun begin!

September 13, 2012   Choosing a garden site is an important decision.  Look for an area that has a mimum of 6 hours of sunlight a day, has water nearby, and is close enough to the house that you will see it daily so you can keep it in mind always.  Now would be a good time to weed the area, water it to get new weeds to germinate, and weed it again.  Every weed seed you clear out this fall makes next years' garden better.
